أعماق الإنسان كرة زجاجيّة مسحورة، وأمام هذه الكرة نختلف ونتفق ونحاول أن نسبر الأعماق، وقد استطاع الفنان سيف وانلي خلال رحلة طويلة وصعبة أن يحطم ما حكموا به عليه قديمًا، استطاع أن ينجو من تراب الوظيفة الصغيرة إلى مكانته، تلك المكانة التي تنال شرف القدرة الفائقة للتعبير بالألوان، ولا بدّ لي من أن أقول: إني قد حاولت أن أعرف كل ما في كرة سيف الزجاجيّة. ففي شتاء 1964م أقنعت الفنان سيف بأن يكتب مذكراته، وقرأت المذكرات، واندفعت إلى كتب الفن والتاريخ أحاول أن أغزل من كل ذلك نسيجًا تسجيليًّا. حاولت أن أرى علاقة أي شيء بكل شيء منذ بداية هذا القرن حتى عام 1960م. رأيت الجزء يبدو وسط الكل مجود أسير وشهيد، ورأيت "الكل" يبدو شرسًا وجلادًا تحت دعوى الجوع الحاد إلى الأمل.
