الطائف منذ القدم مصيف محبب إلى قلوب العرب وخصوصاً أعيان مكة منذ الجاهلية، لكثرة فواكهها وطيب هوائها والطائف وإن كانت تمتاز بعبقرية المكان فقد خانتها عبقرية الزمان. فقد لقيت من عناية الدولة الأموية ما هيأ لرجالها المساهمة الفاعلة في توطيد أركان الحكم. إلا أن عبقرية الزمان خانتها عند قيام الدولة العباسية فلقيت جفاء وانصرافاً عنها رغم أنها مثوي ومدفن جد الأسرة العباسية سيدنا عبد الله بن العباس رضي الله عنهما، وحفل تاريخ المدينة بالكثير من الأحداث خلال قرون لو أتيحت الفرصة لعرضها مفصلة، ولكن اختصاراً أقول أن عزمي على البدء في إخراج الجزء الأول من كتاب (الموجز في تاريخ الطائف) جعلني أبدأ باخراج مخطوطات تاريخ الطائف وهي تبدأ بمخطوط (بهجة المهج في بعض فضائل الطائف ووج) تأليف أبو العباس أحمد بن علي بن أبي بكر بن عيسى الميورقي المتوفى سنة 678هـ، وهذا الكتاب يعتبر من أقدم ما وصل إلينا من عطاءات المؤرخين الذين اعتنوا بتاريخ مدينة الطائف.
