لقد جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب وليدة دمج عديد من الأفكار الموضوعية وبعض الأفكار الذاتية. أما عن الأفكار الموضوعية... فقد استقيتها من خلال استقراء تاريخ نهضة الأمم وتقدمها. وقد تزاحمت في مخيلتي أفكار ذاتية عديدة مؤداها... أين نحن الآن من التقدم والإزدهار؟ ووجدتني مرة أخرى أستقرئ التاريخ الحديث للعلوم، فتواردت خواطر حول دولة اليابان وكيف أن الفرد الياباني هو صانع نهضة بلاده؟ أين نحن من هذه المواقف؟ وكيف يمكن لباحث عربي أن يضع لبنة في بناء إصلاح التعليم في بلادنا العربية لنعيد بعضاً من تاريخ الفارابي، والخوارزمي، وابن سينا؟!!
ووجدت أن التفكير العلمي، والتركيز على تعلم مهاراته يمثل مسلكاً يمكن أن يؤدي إلى تقدم الأمة، وهو أسلوب للحياة لا يمكن فرضه من خارجها، وإذا كان ثمة مسعى للنهوض بالتعليم، والإرتقاء بمخرجاته؛ فلابد من الإهتمام بعمليات العلم في تعليم أبنائنا والسعي الحثيث نحو تعليمهم إياهاو ومن تلاحم هذه الأفكار وتفاعلها جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب خاصة، وأن الإهتمام بعمليات العلم وتنميتها يمثل هدفاً رئيساً من أهداف التربية العلمية في الوطن العربي، وقد توخيت في ذلك الربط بين ما هو نظري، وما هو عملي؛ سعياً لتحقيق أقصى فعالية وجودة. وإنني إذا أقدم هذا الجهد المتواضع إلى الباحثين في مجال تعليم العلوم، وإلى معلمي العلوم، وأولياء الأمور ممن يهتمون بتربية أولادهم تربية علمية سليمة أدعوا الله أن أكون قد وفقت في تقديم عمل يسهم في تنمية عقول أبنائنا، ووضعهم على أعتاب التفكير العلمي: ليتخذوا منه أسلوباً ومنهجاً في حياتهم العامة.
