في زحمة الإجتهاد الجغرافي العلمي، إفتقدت دراسة العلاقة بين الإنسان والأرض، النظرة الجغرافية المتوازنة. وضاع هذا التوازن بين من إنحاز إلى صف الطبيعة وإستخف بالإنسان في جانب، ومن إنحاز إلى صف الإنسان وإستخف بالطبيعة من جانب آخر. بل قل ضاعت مع ضياع هذا الإنحياز فرصة الدراسة الجغرافية الجادة التي تتجرد في تقصي حقيقة العلاقة بين الإنسان والأرض، وهو يتعامل معها. وجاء هذا التجرد لكي تبدأ العناية الجغرافية بهذه العلاقة، حتى ولد موضوع إستخدام الأرض وهو فرع من فروع علم الجغرافية.
ويسعدني أن أسجل هذا العرض عن موضوع إستخدام الأرض، وأن أتحرى هذه العلاقة بين الإنسان والأرض. ولا شئ أهم من تحري التوازن، وإستشعار جدوى الضبط والإنضباط المتبادل بين الإنسان وهو يملك قوة الفعل، والأرض وهي تملك قوة التأثير، وتحت مظلة هذا الضبط والإنضباط المتبادل، يتأتى الإتفاق على المستوى الذي تستسلم به الأرض للإنسان. وأرجو أن أكون قد وفقت في هذا الميدان.
