إنّ كثيراً من المفسرين جعلوا مصطلحي " القرية " و" المدينة " بمعنى واحد، أو بينهما فرقًا على أساس أنّ المدينة أوسع من القرية كما هو متعارف عليه في الوقت الحاضر؛ لذلك جاء هذا البحث لحلِّ إشكاليته، وإظهار وجهٍ من وجوه الإعجاز البياني، عن طريق النظر في السياق القرآني، الذي هو حامل للمناسبة القرآنية، وهي بدورها تكشف لنا عن وجه الربط بين المصطلح وسياقه الذي ورد فيه، وأنّه لا توجد في القرآن ألفاظ أو مصطلحات مترادفة، أي: متطابقة في الدلالة على معنى واحد، من دون أن يكون لكل منهما دلالته الخاصة، أو معنى دقيق يتميّز به من غيره، على الرغم من التقارب بينهما في المعنى العام، وكذلك بيان تخيّر استعمال القرآن للمصطلح على مدلول معين دون ما سواه، ومن ذلك مصطلحا القرية والمدينة .
