لعل من أكثر مناطق الخليج العربي حركاً سياسياً هي البحرين، فمنذ مطلع القرن المنصرم والحركات السياسية والانتفاضات الشعبية تتواصل في هذه الجزر القابعة في منتصف الخليج، مطالبة بالمشاركة السياسية في صنع القرار عبر مجالس منتخبة تشريعية ورقابية.
وأبدي الدكتور فلاح المديرس أستاذ العلوم السياسية في جامعة الكويت اهتماماً كبيراً بالحركة السياسية في عموم الجزيرة العربية، فقد كانت أطروحته لنيل شهادة الدكتوراه حول حركة القوميين العرب، ثم توالت أبحاثه حول مختلف القوى السياسية القومية واليسارية والإسلامية.
وكان من الطبيعي أمام التطورات التي شهدتها البحرين منذ العام 2001 أن يبدي اهتماماً خاصاً بالحركة السياسية في البحرين، فعكف على إصدار سلسلة من المقالات التي نشرتها مجلة الطليعة الكويتية، ثم توسع في هذا البحث ليصدر كتاباً يتميز عن غيره من الكتابات التي صدرت عن الحركة السياسية في البحرين بمتابعته المستمرة وعلاقاته الواسعة مع كافة القوى والجماعات والشخصيات السياسية الفاعلة في البحرين.
ولم يقتصر الأمر على كتابة تاريخ الحركات السياسية السرية والتي جعلت الصراع حاداً وعنيفاً في العديد من محطاته، ولكنه واصل تسجيله لهذه الحركات بعد الانفتاح السياسي وبروز العديد من الجمعيات السياسية التي شكلت الامتداد السياسي للقوى المناضلة في المرحلة السابقة ليسجل أبرز مواقفها الراهنة.
كتاب لا غنى عنه لكل المهتمين بالحركة الشعبية في بلد تميز بتواصل واستمرارية الحركة السياسية في صراعها من أجل الديمقراطية والمشاركة الشعبية في صنع القرار، ولتكون البحرين بداية تحول الدول الخليجية إلى الممالك الدستورية حسب ما وعد به أركان الحكم بعد الانفتاح السياسي.
