يمثل هذا الكتاب - في الأصل - أطروحة أكاديمية نال بها مؤلفها درجة الدكتوراه من إحدى الجامعات البريطانية . لكن الكتاب / الأطروحة يقدم - منهجا - عدداً من الدروس الهامة ، نقديا وثقافياً ، التي قد لا تكون جديدة معرفياً في ذاتها لكنها جديرة بالاعتبار واالتأمل العميق في علاقتها بواقعنا الثقافي عامةً والنقدي على وجه الخصوص.لا يدّعي المؤلف - منذ العنوان حتى السطر الأخير - أنه يدرس "شعر" كفافى قهي مهمة يدرك صعوبتها الشديدة ، لتعدد أبعاد التجربة الشعرية ، التي يستحق كل منها دراسة قائمة بذاتها. ويكتفي بتقرير أنه يدرس أحد هذه الأبعاد فحسب "شعرية كفافى" لا عن تواضع ذاتي بل عن إدراك موضوعي لما هو ممكن علمياً وعملياً على نحو جاد ، بلا استعراض أجوف للعضلات. يعرف الكاتب - هنا - دوره جيداً ؛ فلا يمتطى النص إلى غاياته الذاتية ، ولا يجعل منه مناسبة للإفتاء والافتئات النقدي أو الاجتماعي أو الأخلاقي (ناهيك عن الديني) ، كما لا يسقط عليه تأملاته و "نظرياته" المتفاوتة . أنه يدرس النص بحثاً عن البعد المعين المشغول به مدججا بمعرفة شمولية وعميقة بكل ما كتبه الشاعر ، شعراً ونثراً وما ترجم وما لم يترجم من أعماله المتناثرة في الزمان والمكان وما كتب عنه في اللغات المختلفة وما كتب في الموضوع - كموضوع او إحدى زواياه - منذ القرن الثامن عشر حتى الآن والنظريات الجمالية منذ الرومانتيكية حتى التفكيكية وهي معرفة تتجلى - بحثياً - في تأصيله للملامح المختلفة لشعرية كفافى ، والمقارنة وكشف العلاقات وإضاءة الجذور بلا نزوع تعليمي أو استعراضي.
