يطرح هذا الكتاب عدداً من التساؤلات عن وضع البوسنة والهرسك بعد نحو خمس سنوات من إقرار السلام هناك ويحاول الإجابة عنها.. ولعل أهم تلك التساؤلات هي هل حقاً انتهت الحرب في البوسنة بتوقيع اتفاق دايتون للسلام؟ وهل يمكن للبوسنة أن تصبح دولة موحدة بدلاً من التقسيم الذي تشهده حالياً؟ وما هي إمكانيات عودة البوسنة كدولة مستقلة آمنة؟
إن الكتاب هو محاولة لاستقراء آفاق المستقبل في البوسنة في ظل الحرب التي عانت منها طوال أربع سنوات دمرت فيها بنيتها الأساسية. وهو الدولة الوليدة بجيرانها في البلقان وأوروبا وانتماءاتها إلى الشرق والغرب.. وبحثاً عن الهوية.. وهو تحديد للطريق المليء بالأشواك الذي تسير فيه من أجل السلام النهائي بين طوائفها وفصائلها التي طال عداؤهم لقرون طويلة.
وهو أيضاً محاولة لاستقراء العلاقات العربية مع البوسنة فيما بعد الحرب.. ولعل هذا الكتاب هو الأول من نوعه الذي يتناول أحداث البوسنة فيما بعد الحرب نقدمه للقارئ العربي في محاولة جادة لإعادة وصل ما انقطع من خيوط بلادنا العربية والإسلامية وهذا البلد الوليد، وحتى لا تسقط البوسنة في براثن النسيان وتتوه معالم قضيتها لنفاجأ بعد سنوات بكارثة جديدة هناك.
والكاتب هو صحفي بوكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط المصرية وعمل مديراً لمكتب الوكالة في زاجرب وسراييفو وبلجراد في الفترة من يناير 1996 إلى نهاية عام 1999 وكان شاهد عيان لكل ما شاهدته البوسنة والهرسك في فترة صنع السلام.
