قد فصلت هذا العمل إلى أربعة فصول: عرضت فى أولها للاتصال اللفظى ومفهومه وأشكاله ومسائله الجوهرية، كوظائف الاتصال، وإثنوجرافيا الاتصال، وتداولية الاتصال، والنص الأدبى بوصفة اتصالا. وفى الفصل الثانى عرضت للاتصال غير اللفظى، فألممت بأشكاله المختلفة ،وأمحضت القول فيما تلا لفشارة أو السلوكيات الحركية بانماطها وطبقاتها المتعددة، مفيداً فى ذلك مما قدمته احدث الأعمال العلمية فى هذا الميدان من مفاهيم وآراء ونتائج. أما الفصل الثالث، فقد سعيت فيه إلى استشكاف موقف التراث العربي من الاتصال غير اللفظى من جهة توظيف السلوكيات الحركية فى عملية التخاطب المباشر.
