سوف نتناول في هذه الدراسة اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة بشأن الخطابات ألكترونية في العقود الدولية متبعين منهجاً موضوعياً مقارناً يعتمد على التأصيل والتحليل، ويجمع بين النظرية والتطبيق. فهذه الدراسة دراسة موضوعية مقارنة، إذ سوف نتناول هذه الاتفاقية مع الاتفاقيات الأخرى الصادرة عن الاونستيرال المتعلقة بالعقود الدولية، وإن كانت خاصة بالبيوع الدولية للبضائع، وذلك لما تلاحظ من ربط بين هذه الاتفاقية وتلك الاتفاقيات من خلال المذكرة الإيضاحية للاتفاقية "اتفاقيتي لاهاى سنة 1964، واتفاقية الأمم المتحدة الدولية للبضائع سنة 1980"، كذلك أيضاً مع التشريعات المقارنة الخاصة بالتجارة الإلكترونية، وهي دراسة تحليلية تتناول هذه الاتفاقية من حيث تأثيرها على فكرة دولية العقد، والصفة المدنية والتجارية للعقد.
ونظراً لاتساع موضوع التجارة الإلكترونية وتشعبه سوف نتناول الخطابات الإلكترونية باعتبارها اداة التجارة الإلكترونية لتكوين وتنفيذ العقود الدولية من خلال: "الباب الأول نطاق تطبيق الاتفاقية في العقود الدولية، الباب الثاني الأحكام العامة للاتفاقية بشأن العقود، الباب الثالث استخدام الخطابات الإلكترونية في العقود الدولية".
