يتناول كتاب أحمد عبد الغفار ودوره في السياسة المصرية واحدة من أهم فترات تاريخ مصر في العصر الحديث، إذ يلقى الضوء على شخصية مثلت دوراً محورياً مهماً سواء في الحياة السياسية أو الاقتصادية أو الاجتماعية في مصر آنذاك، ألا وهو أحمد عبد الغفار أحد مؤسسي حزب الأحرار الدستوريين، ابن "تلا"، أحدى بلدان محافظة المنوفية، (فإذا قيل تلا قيل أحمد عبد الغفار)، حيث ينتسب لأكبر العائلات بالمنوفية تأثيراً في الحركة الوطنية المصرية والحياة النيابية ومجالات التنمية والزراعة والتعليم تلقى تعليمه في أعرق الجامعات الإنجليزية، وهي جامعة أكسفورد، لم يتوقف نشاطه عند حزب الأحرار، بل تعداه إلى قبة البرلمان حيث شغل ولسنوات طويلة متفرقة فيما بين أعوام 1924 إلى 1949 كنائب بمجلس النواب والشيوخ، فوزيراً للزراعة والأشغال العمومية، ثم وزيراً للأوقاف والدولة بالنيابة فيما بين 1940-1949. ومن خلال هذا وذاك فقد فصل هذا الكتاب لأحوال مصر في هذه الفترة، ودور أحمد عبد الغفار في الحياة الحزبية، والوزارية، والبرلمانية، ثم موقفة من ثورة 1952، ثم دوره في جمعية المساعي المشكورة.
وحينما قامت ثورة 23 يوليو 1952 كان أحمد عبد الغفار مناصراً لها أيضاً، برغم ما أصابه منها من حيث تقديمه لمحكمة الثورة 1953، التي أثبتت براءته من كل ما نسب إليه، وفرض الحراسة على أملاكه 1961، وحتى وفاته 1968. ليتسنى للباحث من خلال هذه الدراسة المقارنة بين ثورة يوليو 1952، وثورة يناير 2011. وعلى الرغم من أن مؤلفة هذا العمل هي حفيدة شخصية هذا الكتاب فإنها التزمت في مؤلفها بمنهج البحث التاريخي، الذي يعتمد على الوصف والتحليل، بعيدة كل البعد عن الميل أو الهوى، فقد التزمت الحيادية، لتترك مساحة كبيرة للقراء الكرام للحكم بأنفسهم على شخصية أحمد عبد الغفار أحد أهم أقطاب حزب الأحرار الدستوريين، والدور البارز الذي لعبه في تاريخ مصر الحديث والمعاصر إبان النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، كما كشفت هذه الدراسة عن بانوراما عصر بأكملة تميز بالثراء في المبادئ والوطنية والوعي بالقيمة والتنوير والديمقراطية الحقيقية، والقدرة على العطاء للوطن.
