هذه المدينة التى وهبها "الإسكندر" إسمه وخلقها من حيث لم تكن.. نراها تبوح لنا من وقت لآخر بآثار تدل وتثبت تارخياً حافلاً أخفاه عبار السنين أو أمراض البحر المتلاطمة، في هذا الكتاب تحدث "جان إيف أمبرور" ومجموعة من علماء الآثار عن هذه المدينة التى توجت "ملكة الحضارة" فجابوا فى تاريخها وبدأوا كتابهم من عصر سبقها بقليل هو العصر المتأخر من الأسرة الخامسة والعشرين وحتى الثلاثين، يستكمل بتناول تاريخ الإسكندر الأكبر وبناءة لها، وتنظيمها وفنها وثقافتها.. ويتعرض أيضاً المؤلف للديانات والموت فى هذه المدينة، وهو بهذا يقدم سفراً تاريخياً هاماً يتناول حياة مدينة وحضارة لازالت آثارها باقية.
