تمتلك كتاب "تحفة الأحباب..." أهميته وقيمته العلمية من خلال ما تملكه الملحمة نفسها التي يحتوي هذا الكتاب على شرحها من قيمة لدى الدارسين وأهل اللغة وكذا من غزارة مادته العلمية وسلاسة أسلوبه التي صار بها ينتمي إلى هذا العصر بلغته ومستجداته، ويمكن أن تتعامل معه جميع المستويات العلمية وتجد فيه ما يلبي حاجتها ويروي ظمآها، وبسهولة دونما كبير عناء في التقاط فوائد الحجة. وهو إلى ذلك لا يزال يمتلك مبررات وجوده في المؤسسات التعليمية ككتاب منهجي تعليمي تتوافر فيه الشروط المنهجية اللازمة، وهذا ما كان عليه إلى زمن ليس بالبعيد، وليس هذا الكتاب هو الوحيد من كتب جمال الدين بحرق الذي كان ولا يزال صالحاً لأن يكون كتاباً تعليمياً يتداوله طلاب العلم وأساتذته، بل كانت بعض من كتب العلامة بحرق إلى عصرنا الراهن محل عناية الدارسين، وموضع ثقة بعض المؤسسات التعليمية التي اختارتها لتكون ضمن مقرراتها المنهجية.
وهذا ما ضاعف من أهمية تحقيق هذا الكتاب. وبالرجوع لعمل المحقق فيه نجد أنه يتجلى بـ: أولاً: أشار إلى الفروق بين النسخ والنسخة الأم بأرقام أوضحها في الهوامش، ثانياً: قام بوضع علامات الترقيم اللازمة التي تقتضيها شروط التحقيق العلمي السليم، وعمل على وضع الأقواس على أمثلة الكتاب عند شرح قواعد الملحة، مع ابتداع طريقه في ذلك. ثالثاً: قام بترقيم جميع أبيات الملحة بعد تحقيق ترتيبها وعلى حساب المتن الذي اعتمد عليه الشارح. رابعاً: أشار إلى بداية وجه أو ظهر الصفحة من النسخة الأم في جانب الصفحة من هذا الكتاب. خامساً: قام بتخريج الآيات القرآنية من حيث رقمها، واسم السورة. سادساً: وثق نسبة الأشعار والأرجاز إلى قائليها، معتمداً في تحقيق ذلك على معاجم الشواهد الشعرية، والكتب التي عنيت بشرحها وتوثيقها، ثم خرّج تلك الأشعار من كتب النحو واللغة مع توضيح على الشاهد فيها. سابعاً: ترجم للإعلام الواردة في الشرح. ثامناً: وثق أسماء الأماكن الغريبة الواردة في الشرح. تاسعاً: خرّج آراء العلماء واختلافاتهم من كتبهم، ووضح ماني المفردات الغريبة بالاعتماد على معاجم اللغة العربية المعروفة. وترك ما قام الشارح بشرحه إلا أن يكون غير واف أو بحاجة إلى تصويب. عاشراً: وضع فهارس فنية والتي شملت مسارد للآيات القرآنية والأحاديث، والأشعار والأعلام وأسماء الأماكن، والمصادر والمراجع ثم وضع فهرس تفصيلي لأبواب الكتاب وفروعه المختلفة، ليساعد على كشف المسائل الجزئية في مواضيع النحو ويسهل العودة إلى أماكنها في الكتاب، ثم وضع فهرس إجمالي لأبواب الكتاب وفصوله.
