تسعى الدول جاهدة إلى تطوير المصادر البشرية وتعزيزها بوصفها الثروة الحقيقية للحضارة والركيزة الأساسية للتقدم. وتحاول هذه الدراسة الإجابة عن السؤال التالى: هل ترتب على الاهتمام بالعنصر البشري رضاه الوظيفى؟ وبشكل أخص هل العاملون في قطاع المكتبات الجامعية السعودية راضون عن وضعهم وقانعون بما هم فيه؟ من منطلق فلسفة مفادها أنه قد يكون من الصعب بناء هذا الإنسان دون أن نحقق رضاه الوظيفى ودون أن نشبع حاجاته ورغباته.
وإذا كانت القوى البشرية هى أعمدة التنمية الشاملة، فإن عدم تحقيق الرضا الوظيفى لتلك القوى يجعل جهود التنمية بدون جدوى.
ولأن المكتبيين يمثلون عنصراً نادراًوعليهم دور كبير وواضح فى عجلة التطور، فإن هذا يستدعى تحقيق الاستغلال الأمثل لهذا العنصر عن طريق خلق المناخ المناسب الذى يؤدى بدوره إلى تحقيق الرضا الوظيفى لتلك الشريحة من العاملين، وينعكس بالتالي على تحقيق أكبر قدر ممكن من الإنجاز والأداء.
