قال «رمزي سعد الدين دمشقية» في مقدمة تحقيق رسالة «الإعلام الملتزم بفضيلة زمزم» ما نصه:
أحمد بن علي الغزي الأزهري الشافعي، نزيل القسطنطينية.
ورد اسم المؤلف على غلاف الطبعة الأولى لهذه الرسالة المطبوعة بمطبعة الترقي بمكة المكرمة هكذا:
الشيخ أحمد الغزي الشافعي الأزهري المحدِّث.
وله ترجمة في «معجم المؤلفين» لعمر رضا كحالة 2/ 16 لم أقف على سواها في المصادر العربية، وهذا نصُّها:
أحمد بن علي الغزي الأزهري الشافعي، نزيل القسطنطينية.
رئيس المحدِّثين بجامع أيا صوفيا، توفي ودفن بأسكدار. من تصانيفه:
1 - بغية الطالب وبلوغ المآرب.
2 - القمر المنير العلوي في أثر القدم النبوي.
3 - قرة العين لمن وعى في استحباب رفع اليدين في الدعاء
ومصادر الترجمة: إيضاح المكنون للبغدادي 2/ 225، 240؛ وهدية العارفين للبغدادي أيضًا 1/ 176.
ثم وقفتُ على ترجمة للمؤلف مختصرة في «سجل عثماني» 1/ 260 المطبوع سنة 1308 هـ، وقد وردت الترجمة كذلك بنصها في «الموسوعة التركية» 1/ 192 الصادرة باستنبول نقلًا عن «سجل عثماني».
وقد ورد اسم المؤلف فيها هكذا: أحمد عز أفندي
وفيها: أنه رئيس المحدثين بجامع أيا صوفيا، وتوفي عام 1179 هـ، ودفن بأسكدار.
فكأن لفظة (عز) تصحفت عند البغدادي إلى (الغزي)، والله تعالى أعلم بالصواب.
