كتاب "العوسج الملتهب وأنوار العقل" أول دراسةٍ تحليليَّةٍ عميقةٍ كُتِبت باللغة الفرنسيَّة عن نشأة فلسفة الدِّين، والكتاب في ثلاثة مجلِّداتٍ، يتضمِّن المجلِّد الأوَّل، الذي يبحَثُ في إرث القرن التاسع عشر وورثته، مقدمةً عامّةً تقربِّنا من التخصُّص ومن دراسة الأنموذج الإبداليّ العقلانيّ والنقدي، ويدرس المجلد الثاني المقاربات الظاهرانيَّة والتحليليَّة، أما المجلد الثالث [الذي قُسِّم على جزأين في الترجمة العربية لضخامته] فمخصِّصٌ للمقاربة الهيرميتوطيقيَّة.
إنَّ الرسالة الكبرى التي نهضت لها فلسفة الدِّين هي "تدَبِّر الدِّين"، مع العلم أن هذا التخصُّص ظهر إلى الوجود قبل قرنين، والغاية المتوخَّاة من هذا الكتاب هي دراسة الظروف التي قادت إلى إبتكار هذا التخصُّص الذي يستهدف التفكير في الدِّين في تجلِّياته الكبرى، وهو الأمر الذي يجبر الكتاب على توضيح معنى الديانات الملهمة، بدلاً من إستحداث تصوُّرٍ فلسفيّ مصطنع للدِّين، وهو الأمر الذي يحمل الكتاب أيضاً على دراسة محِمل التجلّيات الفرديِّة والجماعيِّة للدِّين، مثل الطُّقوس والمعتقدات والمواقف الروحية، زيادةً على فحص المقولات الذِّهنيَّة والمنطقيَّة الخطابيَّة التي أدَّى إلى ظهورها: وهو يُراعي معطيات تاريخ الأديان التي يستدعي الأمر إدماجها داخل تفكيرٍ ينفتح في أفقه الواسع على معنى التاريخ الكلِّيّ.
وتحتمل مفردة "الإبتكار" دلالةٌ مزدوجةٌ: إذ يتعلِّق الأمر، من جهةٍ، بتزويد القارئ بعرضٍ تاريخيِّ لِلمُمثّلين الكبار لهذا التخصُّص، بعد تعرُّف النماذج الإبداليَّة للعقل التي تحكِّمت في فلسفات الدِّين المهيمنة من زمن كانط إلى مطلع القرن الحادي والعشرين.
ويسعى هذا الكتاب، من جهةٍ أخرى، إلى فتح الأفق أمام القضايا التي يتعيَّن على الفلسفة الهيرمينوطيقيَّة للدِّين أن تُواجهَها اليوم، ويروم أيضاً الكشف عن الرِّهانات الخاصّة بالمناقشات المحتدمة اليوم بشأن الإرث الروحيِّ والدِّينيِّ المنتمي إلى أوروبا.
