هذا الكتاب امتداد لما سبقه من كتب درست عهد النبوة، وعهد الخلافة الراشدة. وقد عنون هذا الكتاب "دولة السلاجقة وبروز المشروع الإسلامي لمقاومة التغلغل الباطني والغزو الصليبي" ويعتبر حلقة مهمة من ضمن سلسلة حلقات تاريخ أمتنا، والمتعلقة بالحروب الصليبية.
يتحدث الفصل الأول: عن السلاجقة، وأصولهم، وسلاطينهم، ومواطنهم، وبداية ظهورهم، وعن اتصال الأتراك بالعالم الإسلامي، وعن المشرق الإسلامي قبيل ظهور السلاجقة. ويتضمن هذا الكتاب سيرة السلطان السلجوقي: ألب أرسلان، والذي تولى السلطة بعد طغرل بك، وعن جهاده في سبيل الله، وحملته على الشام وضم حلب.
وفي الفصل الثاني: تطرق إلى نظام الوزارة العباسية في العهد السلجوقي، وعن صفات وزير الخليفة العباسي من العلم. وترجمت لأشهر وزراء الحلفاء العباسيين في العهد السلجوقي.
وفي الفصل الثالث اهتم بالمؤسسة العسكرية السلجوقية والتي كانت القوى الضاربة للدولة. كما تحدث عن نظم الإدارة العسكرية كالمناصب القيادية، كالأمير الحاجب الكبير، وصفات قائد الجيش ورواتب الجند والقائد العام.
وفي الفصل الرابع: كان الحديث عن المدارس النظامية منذ نشأتها، وعن أهدافها التعليمية، ووسائل نظام الملك في تحقيق أهداف المدارس، كاختيار الأماكن والأساتذة والعلماء، وتحديد منهج الدراسة، وتوفير الإمكانات المادية، وتنظيم الهيئة التدريسية، من تعيين الأساتذة، وفصلهم، وأثر تلك المدارس في العالم الإسلامي.
في الفصل الخامس تحدث عن الحروب الصليبية في العهد السلجوقي، فتحدث عن الجذور التاريخية للحروب الصليبية، وأهم أسباب ودوافع هذا الغزو. وحلل الكتاب أسباب نجاح الحملة الصليبية الأولى، وبين أهم أسبابها. ونقلت فتوى ابن تيمية في الحركات الباطنية. وأفردت مبحثاً عن حركة المقاومة الإسلامية في العهد السلجوقي فيما بين الغزو الصليبي وظهور عماد الدين زنكي، وعن دور الفقهاء، والقضاة، واستجابتهم لمقاومة الغزو، وتحريضهم على الجهاد بالكتابة، والتأليف، والمشاركة الفعلية في ساحات الجهاد.
