مؤلف هذا العمل والذي نحن بصدده، هو الأستاذ المخرج تيمور أباشيدزي المتخصص في تدريس مادتي "أسس إخراج" و "إعداد الممثل" للمسرح الموسيقى حضر إلى مصر عام 1993 بدعوة من أكاديمية الفنون بالقاهرة من جمهورية جورجيا التابعة للاتحاد السوفيتي سابقاً.
ويعتبر هذا الكتاب محصلة سلسلة من المحاضرات الدراسية الخاصة بمعهد الفنون المسرحية في حادثي "نظرية وتاريخ تفسير المسرح الموسيقي والدراما الموسيقية"، والذي يمكننا أن نطلق عليه عنواناً فرعياً... موجز عام عن تاريخ تطور المسرح الموسيقي (الأوبرا- الأوبريت، الميوزيكال).
يتكون هذا الكتاب التعليمي من جزأين: حيث يضم الباب الأول تاريخ الدراما الموسيقية في سبعة فصول هي التمهيد، نشأة الأوبرا، الأوبرا في عصر الروكوكو، الأوبرا في العصر الكلاسيكي، والأوبرا الرومانتيكية، والأوبرا الواقعية، والأوبرا المودرن، ويضم أيضاً موجز تاريخ الأوبرا الرومنسية، والباب الثاني يضم من الأوبريت لى الميوزيكال، حيث يتضمن نبذة تاريخية موجزة عن الأوبريت ونظريته والأوبريت الفرنسي، والأوبريت ألفينى الكلاسيكي، والأوبريت ألفينى الجديد والميوزيكال أي نشأته، ومراحل تكوينه ويتضمن أيضا سيرة ذاتية عن أهم المؤلفين الموسيقيين في كل مرحلة وأهم أعمالهم.
