لقد توفر علماؤنا الثقاتُ الأثباتُ الأجلاءُ على خدمة علم القراءات القرآنية الذي يتكفل بضبط أداء حروف القرآن الكريم، ووقفوا جهودهم البارعة الماتعة عليه، ورووا القراءات بأسانيدها المتصلة إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كابراً عن كابر.
وقد ألفت في القراءات السبع كتب قيمة نفيسة، وأول من نهد إلى هذا الصنيع العظيم الإمام ابن مجاهد البغدادي، شيخ الصنعة، وأول من سبع قراءات الأئمة السبعة، وذلك في القرن الرابع الهجري، ثم بسطت في تثمين القراءات وتعشيرها أسفارٌ قيمة، كما اختصت أسفار أخرى بقراءات ما بعد العشر، وصنفت كتب بارعة في علم التجويد.
ومنها هذه الرسالة اللطيفة الشريفة التي عمل على تحقيقها الدكتور عطية الوهيبي وإحيائها والموسومة بــ"تحقيق الكلام في قراءة الإدغام" إذ اشتملت على مواضع الإدغام الكبير لأبي عمرو ابن العلاء أحد القرّاء السبعة المشاهير، وأحد اللغويين والنحويين النحارير، وقد جاءت هذه المواضع مرتبة على وفق حروف المعجم للتسهيل والتقريب.
مؤلف هذه الرسالة القيمة في بابها، النفيسة بين أترابها، المفيدة لطلابها، هو الشيخ الإمام عبد الرحمن بن أبي القاسم بن القاضي الفاسي المغربي، المتوفى سنة 1082هـ، وهو من أَجَلِّ علماء القراءات القرآنية في الديار المغربية الذين ملؤوا أصقاعها علماً وفضلاً وفقهاً ونبلاً.
وقد قدم المحقق بين يدي تحقيق هذه الرسالة دراسة عرفت بالمؤلف وشيوخه وتلامذته ومكانته العلمية وآثاره، كما تكلم أيضاً بإيجاز على الإدغام وبعض المسائل المهمة المتعلقة به، ثم ذكر أوصاف النسخ الخمس التي اعتمد عليها واستند إليها في تحقيق هذا الأثر وإقامة نصه حتى استوى على سوقه، وعن منهج التحقيق ومصطلحاته.
