وهذا البحث واحداً من البحوث التي يمكن أن تضاف إلى تلك الدراسات التي قامت حول إنجازات أولئك العلماء، جاء بعنوان: "المماثلة والمخالفة بين ابن جني والدراسات الصوتية الحديثة" حيث نتعرف فيه على جهود العلماء المتقدمين في الدراسات الصوتية، في ضوء الدراسات الصوتية الحديثة، وذلك من خلال ما قدّمه أحد علماء القرن الرابع الهجري، وهو أبو الفتح عثمان ابن جني، المتوفّى سنة اثنتين وتسعين وثلاثمائة للهجرة.
