Book Description
ولد الشيخ محمد بن حسين بن محمد بن مصطفى الجسر في منطقة الحدادين طرابلس عام 1881، والدته من بيت الحلاق من صيدا ووالده ينتمي إلى آل المائي من أبناء مدينة دمياط المصرية وهذه الأسرة فرع من آل الرفاعي تقوم بالإشراف على توزيع فائض مياه نهر النيل على الأهالي فدعي أفرادها بالمائي أي صاحب الماء.
تلقى الشيخ محمد تعليمه الأول في المنزل على والده ودرس الإسلام في سن مبكرة ثم دخل المدرسة الوطنية التي أسسها والده عام 1880 فدرس العربية وتعاليم الإسلام.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف السيرة الجامعة والمتواضعة عن حياة الشيخ محمد الجسر وأعماله ومواقفه، وهو سيرة الشيخ الواقعي والمثالي في علاقاته الإنسانية والاجتماعية والوظيفية والسياسية وقد حاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب توخي الحقيقة وإنصاف الرجل العالم والمشرع الأول الذي أهملته بعض الكتابات التاريخية وحملته بعض الأقلام مسؤولية تعليق الدستور اللبناني وتعطيل الحياة النيابية عام 1932. واستقى المعلومات من مصادرها الأساسية ومن يوميات الشيخ الجسر ومن عدة وثائق ومن مشاهدات وآراء أشخاص عايشوا المرحلة التي كان فيها الشخصية الأقوى والأبرز خلالها في لبنان آنذاك.
والكتاب يسلط الضوء على شخصية الشيخ الحوارية المنفتحة من جهة، وصاحب القوة الحديدية من جهة أخرى من خلال تسجيلات يومياته الخاصة للأعوام 1923 و1924 و1927 والتي تضم نحو 550 صفحة ترصد أدق التفاصيل والأمور الإدارية والتشريعية وموقفه من الإدارة الفرنسية آنذاك.
