نذر لامارتين قلبه للحب، أدار وجه أمانيه نحوه، ورفع أحلامه إليه، وآمن أن الحب هو موئل الراغبين، فغنّى له غناء رائعاً جميلاً، يزخر بأصدق العواطف البشرية،بل أنقاها وأخلدها.
قام برحلة شوق وحبّ إلى الشرق، فقد خلالها ابنته جوليا وكان ذلك صدمة كبيرة… خاض غمار السياسة في تلك الرحلة الصعّبة من تاريخ فرنسا، وشغل عدة مناصب هامة، كتب تاريخ فرنسا… هذا هو لامارتين الشاعر، لامارتين الكاتب الكبير الذي يدون المؤلف رحلته الطويلة التي لطالما حلم بها إلى الشرق.. تلك الرحلة الثرّة الفنية، التي كانت أحد الينابيع النقيّة، التي غرف منها شاعرنا إلهامه ووحيه، واستقى منها كلّ تأملاته الشعرية، الدينية والعاطفية.
