العرب أصحاب البيان وارباب الفصاحة كانت لهم طرائق في التعبير، حاول العلماء تقنينها ووضع القواعد لها، وأسهم علماء البلاغة بحظ وافر في إرساء هذه القوانين وتلك القواعد، فكانت علوم البلاغة الثلاثة (المعاني والبيان والبديع)، وغرضهم خدمة كتاب الله (القرآن الكريم).
ولما كان يصعب على الكثيرين مطالعة قواعد البلاغة في كتب القدامى، كانوا بحاجة إلى كتاب يقدم الخلاصة الكافية في هذه العلوم، من هنا – جاء هذا الكتاب المسمى (الجنى الداني في علم المعاني) إقتباساً من قوله تعالى في سورة الرحمن: "وجنى الجنتين دانٍ" وصفه مؤلفاه بـ"شجرة في حديقة المعاني، وارفة الظلال، يانعة الثمار" وهو خاص بطلاب وطالبات أقسام اللغة العربية في المملكة العربية السعودية" ولكل طالب علم. كونه جاء في ضوء كتاب "الإيضاح في علوم البلاغة" للخطيب القزويني. وما يؤكد أهمية الكتاب اختيار نصوصه من القرآن الكريم وعيون الشعر، وفصيح النثر، وضبطه الكلمات الغريبة خاصة في البيات الشعرية، مع بيان موضع الشاهد في النص بدقة ووضوح، وايضاً الإستعانة ببعض الأشكال في بيان المراد، خاصة في التقسيمات إلى غير ذلك من بحوث تتعلق بالفصاحة في (الكلمة) وفي (الكلام) مع بيان العيوب التي تخل بالفصاحتين. وهذا ما سارت عليه خطة الكتاب في تمهيد وستة فصول وخاتمة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية:
التمهيد: (الفصاحة)، الفصل الأول: (بين الخبر والإنشاء). الفصل الثاني (الجملة الإسمية والفعلية). الفصل الثالث: (إخراج الكلام على خلاف مقتضى الظاهر). الفصل الرابع (القصر). الفصل الخامس: (الفصل الواصل). الفصل السادس: (الإيجاز والأطناب والمساواة).
