يشكل هذا الكتاب مقاربة منهجية خاصة بالتراث الإباضي في تأويل القرآن الكريم، يسعى مؤلفها الأستاذ "فتحي بو عجيلة" إلى دراسة أكثر عمقاً للمذهب الأباضي، وذلك من خلال العمل على تبيّن موقع الإباضة ووزنها ومنهجها وفكرها من خلال رصد الإنتاج المتراكم عبر التاريخ عنها في التأويل والتأويل للآخر.
"في هذا الإطار يوضح المؤلف ما للحركة التأويلية القديمة من أهمية فكراً وتاريخاً، وفلسفة، فهي التي "نزلت المذاهب منازلها، وطورتها أو سارت بها نحو الإندثار، وهي التي كانت وراء تقاربها أو تباعدها، وانسجامها أو صراعها، وهي التي أسست لتراث غير مُحصىً في الكلاميات والفقهيات، وأنجبت أعلاماً في الرأي ورواداً، كما أجهزت على عدد من المختلفين والألمعيين، وتجاوزت ميدانها العلمي الرفيع لتشغل (المقدس) في عالم السياسة والسلطة".
يختص هذا الكتاب بالبحث في التأويلية القرآنية الإباضية، ويكشف عن الخصوصية المذهبية في الفهم والإستنباط والتشكيل، من دون أن يتوقف على الآليات والأساليب والطرائق المسلمة في تفسير النص القرآني، والهدف الأخير للمؤلف " تقديم صورة من التأويل المقارن في صلب المذهب الإباضي ثم بينه وبين الآخر". فإلى أي حد يمكن أن يكون الأنموذج الإباضي عينة كافية للتعرف من خلالها إلى عمل الآخر في تأويل القرآن هو ما ستنبأ به هذه الدراسة القيّمة والمقارنة في الأديان.
