يقبل الجمهور عادة على مشاهدة الأفلام، وبخرج راضياً أو ساخطاً على الفيلم، دون أن يعلم الخطوات التي مر بها هذا الفلم، أو يدرك مدى صعوبة هذه الخطوات، ولا يمكن أن يتصور بأية حال من الأحوال، هذه العناصر الفنية والآلية والمالية، التي تتعاون على تحقيق فيمل من الأفلام وإعداده وتصويره، ليكون في النهاية، متعة للناظرين في دور العرض السينمائي.
والهدف من هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، والذي هو الأول من نوعه في المكتبة الثقافية السينمائية/ إذ لم يسبق له نظير أو مشابه، في اللغة العربية سواء موضوعاً أو مترجماً. وهو رواية قصة فيلم من الأفلام، في مراحله المتعددة المتوالية، منذ بدايته حتى نهايته، منذ كان فكرة في خاطر المؤلف أو المخرج، حتى صار فيماً معداً للعرض العام، على النظارة والجمهور والنقاد والصحافيين.
وقد قام الكاتب بتسجيل الملاحظات والمشاهدات والتعليق عليها بأسلوب فني واضح وبسيط. وكأنه وضع في اعتباره من أول وهلة، مهمة تبسيط المعلومات الجافة، والمصطلحات الفنية ، وتيسير لفتها إلى عقل القارىء غير المختص. ولا نزاع أنه حاول أن يصور هذا الجو الغريب الملىء بالمفاجآت والمتاعب والعوائق.
