يستعرض الكتاب بعمق الجوانب النفسية التي يغفل المعاق عنها عندما يركز في بحثه عن حل غير ممكن لمشكلة ظاهرية فتخفي عليه قواه وإمكانياته الداخلية.. وحتى أقرب المقربين منه لا يستطيع معرفة لماذا يفقد تركيزه أو قدرته على الاستمرار بالمستوى المعهود ذاته بعد الإعاقة.
والكتاب يربط لأول مرة بين حقائق علم النفس والاجتماع وعلم وظائف الأعضاء ودورها في تفسير الأعراض والظواهر النفسية المصاحبة للإعاقة وطرق علاجها وأسس تصميم حياة المعاق بناء على فهم واضح وبسيط لعلوم أهملت إلى حد كبير.
كل هذا بلغة عربية قريبة من فهم الشخص العادي غير المتخصص، وبطبيعة الحال مفيدة للمتخصص، سواء أكان طبيباً، ممرضة، اختصاصيا اجتماعياً، معالجاُ إلى المعاقين أنفسهم وأسرهم.
