فإنَّ الدرسَ اللسانيَّ الحديث شهدَ تطوراً كبيراً في مختلفِ مستوياتِه، وجَدَّتْ فيه قضايا جديرة بأن يَطَّلِعَ عليها طلابُ اللغةِ العربية، وأن يُلمّوا بمضامينها، ويفقهوا تطبيقاتها. وهذه الأفكار أو القضايا اللسانية أسهم في نقلها إلى العربية بعض اللسانيين العرب الروَّاد، وتابع نقلَها مُتطورةً باحثون واكبوا التطور العلمي فيها، وألَّفوا فيها كتباً بعضها تناولت نظرية بعينها، وأخرى ضمَّت نظرياتٍ أو قضايا مختلفة. ويأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن تلك الكتب التي حاولت نقل أهم قضايا الدرس اللساني الحديث وبيان تطبيقاتها على اللغة العربية، وقد أُعِدَّ؛ ليكون منهجاً يُلائمُ طلاب اللغة العربية في المرحلة الجامعية. وهدفه التعريف باللسانيات الحديثة، وتناول أهم قضاياها، مقرونة ببعض تطبيقاتها على لغتنا العربية. وليس من شأنه تفصيل القضايا اللسانية، لا من حيث التنظير ولا من حيث التطبيق، بل إن مقصوده جمع الأبرز من هذه القضايا في مُؤَلَّفٍ واحد يوجز ويُلخِّص كل قضية، ويُورِد من تطبيقاتها على اللغة العربية ما به يستقيم فهم طالب العلم؛ وهو بذلك يَكتفي بالقليل المـُجمَل عن الكثير المـُفصَّل.
