من الملاحظ أن الدراسات التى أجريت على القنوات الفضائية التى انتشرت في الآونة الأخيرة غير كافية للكشف عن التأثيرات الفعلية للقنوات الفضائية التليفزيونية المختلفة على وقع الحياة اليومية للأفراد من ناحية وعلى استقطاب الجمهور المحلي وعزله عن وسائل الإعلام المحلية من ناحية اخرى. والدراسة الراهنة محاولة ي هذا الاتجاه حيث نسعى من خلالها للتعرف على تأثير تعرض قادة الرأى للقنوات الفضائية على سلوكهم الاتصالي مع الاخرين في البيئة المحليةويأتي انتخاب قادة الراى هنا بالنظر إلى المكانة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية التى يحظون بها في البيئة المحلية وبفضل توقع تعرضهم المكثف لوسائل الاعلام وبالذات القنوات الفضائية التى ليست متاحة على نطاق واسع للغالبين في البيئة المحلية حتى الان.
