يقول العبد الذليل المحتاج إلى عفو مولاه الجليل عمر بركات: إن مختصر العلامة الهمام شيخ الإسلام، وقدوة الأنام، نفعنا الله بمعلومه على مدى الأيام الملقب "بشهاب الدين أبى العباس أحمد ابن النقيب المصرى ابن لؤلؤة"، وله تصانيف منها هذا المختصر، وقد التمس منى بعض المحبين أهل العلم والكمال أن أشرحه شرحآ يفتح المغلق منه بالأقفال لا أوجز فيه إيجازآ مخلاً، وأطنب فيه إطناباً مملاً حرصاً على التقريب لفهم قاصده، وتحصيل ما أنطوى من فوائده، فتوقفت مدة ولم أرد الجواب لعلمى بأنى لم أ:ن ممنةتحلى بميدان هذا الباب، ولا يخوض فيه إلا من كان عريقآ فى بحر الفنون، ومدت عليه الفصاحة خيامها، فقرت لمقاله العيون وبذلت له البلاغة أعلاماً على الغصون وقد حاز قصبات السبق فى مراكض الفرسان، وفتح صعاب المشكلات بالبيان، لكننى أرجو من القادر الفتاح أن يسقنى كأس الصلاح وأتشبه بأولى التحقيق والتدفيق ويلبسنى ثوب الفكرة والتنميق، ويلهمنى سبيل الرشاد حتى لا أحيد عما يراد، ثم بعد التوقف المذكور شرح الله لذلك صدرى، ويسر على ما عسر من أمر فشرعت فى شرح المختصر لما سبق فى الأول من القضاء والقدر، يكون على طبقه من الاختصار ويكون للقاصرين مثلى لا للكبار، راجياً من المولى المنان أن يعم النفع به فى الأمصار والبلدان.
