إنَّ الله عز وجل اختارَ لهذه الأمَّة رجالاً جعلهم حفظـةَ الدينِ وخزنتَـه، وأوعيةَ العلم وحملتَه، أمعنوا في الحفظ، وأكثروا في الكتابة، وأفرطوا في الرحلة، وواظبوا على السُّنن والمذاكرة، والتصنيف والدراسة. وقد تفنَّنوا في تدوينها وبيان ما اشتملت عليه من علوم المتن والإسنـاد، حتى بلغـت علومُها العشرات، وقد أفرد جمعٌ من الأئمـة المبهمات بالتصنيف، وخصُّوها بالعنايـة.
ولما كان "صحيح الإمامِ البخاري" من أجلِّ ما صنِّف في صحيح حديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وقد اشتمل على جملة وافرةٍ من علوم المتن والإسناد ـ عكف عليه العلماءُ، وألَّفوا حولَه الكتبَ المطولةَ والأجزاءَ، وكان من تلك الفنون علم المبهماتِ الواقعةِ فيه.فقد تكلم الأئمة في شروحهم على البخاريِّ على جملةٍ مما وقع فيه من المبهمات؛ كابن بَطَّال، والكَرمانيِّ، وابن المُلَقِّن، وابن حجـر، والعيني، والقسطلاني وغيرهم. وكان مِنْ أحسنهم كلاماً وتحريراً الحافـظُ ابنُ حجر في مقدمة شرحه الحافل "فتح الباري"، حيث عَقَدَ فصلاً كاملاً لبيان المبهمات الواقعة فيه، فأفاد عمَّن تكلَّمَ قبلَه، واستفاد منه كلُّ مَنْ عاصره أو أتى بعده.
وكان الإمامُ البُلْقينيُّ ممَّن أفاد كثيراً عن الحافظ ابن حجر، فجمع كتابَ: "الإفهام لما في البخاري من الإبهام"، وذكر فيه فصلاً يختصُّ بما استفادَ من مطالعته زائداً على ما حصَّله من الكتب المصنَّفة في المبهمات والشروح، فكان شيئاً كثيراً. وصار كتابُ "الإفهام لما في البخاري من الإبهام" من أهمِّ وأجلِّ موارد بيان مبهمات صحيح البخاري، فقد استوفى الإمامُ البلقيني ذكرَ المبهماتِ على ترتيب الكتب والأبواب والأحاديث في "الصحيح". فجاء كتاباً حافِلاً، فيه نفائسُ جَمَّةٌ، مما يتشوَّف إلى معرفته أهلُ العلم بالحديث، ويفرح بمطالعته، ويتحلَّى بمُذاكرتـه أهلُ النِّكاتِ ومُلتقطو الفوائـد النادرة، والـدررِ الشاردة، فتسعَدَ نفوسُهم، وتَنْعَم عيونُهم برؤية مُبتغاهم مجموعاً في هذا العِلْق النفيس.
