تحظى المخطوطات العربية بأهمية كبيرة لدى الباحثين ورجال الفكر والثقافة؛ لأنها تعبر عن العطاء الثر للفكر العربي الإسلامي الغني في مختلف صنوف العلم والمعرفة.
وليس من شك أن السبيل لمعرفة ماضينا العريق والإفادة منه في الحاضر والمستقبل في مختلف المجالات العلمية والثقافية هو العودة إلى هذا التراث المخطوط والعمل في تحقيقه بغية إنتاج دراسات علمية أصيلة.
من هنا، جاء اختارت الدكتورة ندى محمود مخطوطة ذخائر القصر في تراجم نبلاء العصر ولا سيما أنها نسخة فريدة وغير محققة أصلاً وموضوعها يحمل تراجم لرجال القرن 10هـ/16م ومؤلفها هو العلامة الكبير مسند الشام المؤرخ ابن طولون شمس الدين محمد بن علي الدمشقي الصالحي (ت 953هـ/ 1546م) الذي اشتهر ذكره وبان فضله عالماً متميزاً بين علماء زمانه الأعلام.
لقد اقتضت الضرورة العلمية أن يشتمل نطاق الدراسة والتحقيق على مقدمة وبابين رئيسين يحتوي كل باب منها على فصول ومباحث يتبعها باب ثالث خصص للنص المحقق ثم يأتي الخاتمة وقائمة المصادر الأولية والمراجع الحديثة المعتمدة فيها.
في الباب الأول، تم تناول الملامح العامة لعصر ابن طولون وحياته الشخصية والعلمية والعملية، أما الفصل الثاني: فخصص لدراسة المخطوطة وقد اشتمل على سبعة فصول، وخصص الباب الثالث والأخير في النص المحقق للمخطوطة، ويعقبه الخاتمة التي أوجزت فيها المؤلفة النتائج المهمة التي توصلت إليها سواء في دراسة حياة المؤلف الشخصية والعلمية والعملية أو في دراسة المخطوطة وتحقيقها.
