لم يكن ممكناً لمؤلف أو ناقد مسرحي أن يكتب مثل هذا الكتاب، فالمشتغل بالكلمة غير المشتغل بالصورة أو التكوين، خاصة حين التعرض لتجارب في المسرح المعاصر حيث لا تستخدم الكلمة على الإطلاق، أولا تستخدم في العرض كله سوى بضع كلمات.
غاية الطموح أن يؤدي هذا الكتاب دوراً في واقعنا المسرحي، فما المسرح سوى وجه وجوه الثقافة في المجتمع. وما الثقافة سوى ثقافة الطبقة السائدة أو الساعية للسيادة، وعلى فنان المسرح أن يختار: إما أن يكون ثائراً أو مطية للطبقة الصاعدة.
