لم تكن بلاد الشام في التاريخ الحديث ممراً أو معبراً عادياً للحجاج والمهجّرين المغاربة، بل كانت نقطة إرتكاز لمتابعة المسيرة الحضارية مع الإخوة السوريين، متضمنة الأمان والتزوّد الثقافي والفكري من علماء الشام، والتواصل مع أهلها بحكم ما عُرف عنهم من طيبة ومودّة، إضافة إلى زيارة معالمها التي تشكّل منارات هداية وعمران حضاري.
ومن هذا المنطلق اختار الأمير عبد القادر دمشق ملجاً وموطناً مع رجاله وأهله ومؤيديه، فصار فيها زعيماً يشار إليه بالبنان وحظي بالتفافٍ جماهيري من قبل أهالي الشام بمختلف فئاتهم وطوائفهم.
الأمر الذي يبيّن العلاقة التاريخية بين أهالي الشام والشعب الجزائري خاصة والمغاربي عامة.
وهو ما تعالجه هذه الدراسة من خلال موقف الشعب السوري من ثورة التحرير الجزائرية.
