تاريخ الصحافة في مصر أحد الميادين التي استمرت "مصر النهضة" توجه لها عناية خاصة.. وقد صدرت هذه العناية عن قناعة راسخة أن الصحافة المصرية منذ صدورها حتى في شكلها الرسمي، بصدور الوقائع المصرية عام 1828 وإلى يومنا هذا استمرت مرآة لحركة التاريخ في مناحيها السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والفكرية.

صدرت أيضاً عن إدراك لدور الصحافة في الحلول محل كتابات التاريخ الأخباري، وهو التاريخ الذي أخذت صناعته في الانقراض بعد رحيل آخر رجاله العظماء، الشيخ عبد الرحمن الجبرتي، صاحب الكتاب المعروف "عجائب الآثار في التراجم والأخبار" خلال النصف الأول من القرن التاسع عشر.. القرن الذي عرفت مصر في عقده الثالث الصحافة الحكومية، تبعتها الصحافة الأهلية بعد أربعة عقود.

انطلاقاً من ذلك جاء العدد الثاني عشر من هذه الكتب تحت عنوان "صحافة الحزب الوطني 1907-1912" والذي وضعه الدكتور يواقيم رزق مرقص، والعدد التاسع عشر تحت عنوان "الصحافة والحركة الوطنية المصرية 1945-1952" الذي ألفته الدكتورة لطيفة محمد سالم.

ويأتي هذا العدد من مصر النهضة الذي وضعه الدكتور رمزي ميخائيل ليعالج نفس الموضوع ولكن في فترة أخرى ومن مظان مختلفة. الفترة أطول وتمتد لأربعين عاماً، بين الاحتلال البريطاني لمصر عام 1882 وإعلان تصريح 28 فبراير عام 1922، وهي فترة حافلة بالأحداث حرص الدكتور رمزي أن ينتقي منها الوقائع الكبرى التي عبرت فيها الحركة الوطنية عن نفسها ليرصد بعد ذلك موقف الصحافة منها..

والمظان جاءت أساساً من البحث في الصحافة المصرية التي تابع المؤلف مواقفها، على غير ما فعلته الدكتورة لطيفة التي اعتمدت على الوثائق البريطانية فيما سجلته في عنوان دراستها، وإن لم تهمل بالطبع الصحف المصرية.
