يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى إعادة طرح علاقات القوة في ثقافتنا العربية؛ كعلاقة الرجل بالمرأة وعلاقة الصغير بالكبير من خلال دراسة مفهوم "العيب" الذي يمكن أن يكون أداة طيعة في يد البعض لتأكيد مكانتهم، وتكريس قوتهم عبر فرض مجموعة من الأوامر والنواهي، ويتحدد مجال بحث هذا المفهوم في حياتنا اليومية بتفاصيلها المعاشة وتمثيلاتها الواقعية الخالية من التحفظ والتصنع، وقد ساهم هذا المنهج في الكشف عن تناقضات عدة للمفهوم وأزاح الستار عن وجه آخر لاستخدامات "العيب"؛ وجه أوضح ما بالعيب، كمفهوم منتناقضات وتحيزات لصالح فئة دون أخرى، واختزال لأفراد دون غيرهم، فنرى العيب في أحيان كثيرة كطفل يلهو بأرجوحته التي يتأرجح بها بين المنع تارة والمنح تارة أخرى، وبين الخطأ تارة والخطيئة تارة أخرى.. مما يسهم في تكريس المكانة والتمايز بين البشر وفي مزيد من المعاناة والقهر.
