هذه القصة الثورة العرابية كما كتبها خطيب الثورة وكاتبها الأول السيد عبد الله نديم. وهى قصة لا أستطيع أن أدعى أنها كتبت بقلم مؤرخ يعمد إلى جمع الآراء والموازنة بينها والعمل على الوصول إلى الحقيقة التاريخية المحررة. وإنما الذى أستطيع قوله هو أن هذه القصة قد كتبت بقلم من يريد من التاريخ أن يصور القوى الدافعة التى كانت تدفع رجال الثورة فى ذلك الحين من المؤيدين والمعارضين ومن هنا نراه يصور التدخل الأوروبى ويصور المواقف الممتعة التى كانت تقفها دولة الخلافة الإسلامية فى ذلك الحين ونراه يهتم أكثر من كل ما تقدم بتصوير المشاعر الإنسانية فنراه يصور الانفعالات البشرية والعواطف الإنسانية تلك التى يهيج الإنسان وتدفعه إلى أن يقدم أو إلى أن يحجم.
والذى ارجوه أن ينتبه القارىء إلى أنى لا أقصد من كل ما تقدم إلى القول بأن هذه القصة ليست تاريخا, أو القول بأنها أدب له من التاريخ اسم وعنوان, فإنها فى عرفى- علم الله- تاريخ له قيمته وله خطره. إنها تصوير المشاعر الانسانية الحماعة الثائرين. وهذه المشاعر هى التى تدفعنا إلى أن نحبهم أو نكرههم. وإلى أن نتخذ منهم المثل أو لا نتخذ, والتاريخ لا يكون فى عرفى قويا فعالا ألا إذا دخل أنفسنا من هذه السبيل. إن الحقيقة التاريخية من حيث هى حقيقة عقلية أو منطقية لا ثؤثر فى الناس ولا تدفعهم إلى الاعمال الوطنية المجيدة. ولكنها يوم تصبح حقيقة نفسية مرتبطة بعواطف الناس ومشاعرهم تؤثر فيهم وتدفعهم إلى عمل المستحيل. إنها فى هذه اللحظة تصبح حباً أو إيماناً. وليس يدفع الانسان إلى العمل مثل الإيمان الصادق والحب العميق. فليقرأ القارى هذة القصو على هذا الأساس- أساس أنها تصوير للمشاعر الإنسانية لجماعة الثائرين. ولينتظر القارىء من السيد عبد الله نديم- وهو واحد من الثوار- أن يدافع عن الثورة والثائرين الدفاع الحار. ثم له بعد ذلك أن يحب هذه الجماعة أو يكرهها, وأن يحكم لها أو عليها, فتلك مشاعره الخاصة التى لا يصح ان يكون لنا عليها سبيل .
