Book Description
This guide is meant to be a companion for all those interested in nature walking and a useful pocket guide for students of ecology and botany. It also serves to enlighten people in key positions and the masses to the variety and importance of the Lebanese flora. It is our intent that this book becomes a versatile illustrated reference in the wider context of documenting biodiversity of Lebanon.
Due to the complex nature of naming of wild flowers by botanists, a simple color indexing method was used that should enable the common non-scientific user to quickly locate the flower of interest in this guide. The color associated with each flower is the dominant color. Within each color section, the flowers are organized in alphabetical order of the scientific name. Readers are strongly encouraged to check the violet and pink section when in doubt as these two colors are often confusing and sunshine affects our perception of the color tone.
Some of the more common Arabic names are indicated and different people may have different names for the same flower. They may even have names that are not mentioned. Every effort was done to include the most widely known name of the flower and further input to this effect from the reader would be greatly appreciated.
Details about each flower were kept to minimum to maintain the compactness of this book. With the knowledge of the scientific name, one can easily use other larger and more detailed reference books to obtain more information.
Please remember, when in nature, take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footsteps.
