الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يحاول ان يعرض للقارئ نظرتنا للمشكلات الاجتماعية وطريقة تناولها للممارسة في تخصصات علم الاجتماع والخدمة الاجتماعية، ويأتي هذا الكتاب في ثلاث أبواب رئيسية. يتناول الباب الاول منه المشكلات الاجتماعية من منظر الرعاية والخدمة الاجتماعية ويشمل الرعاية الاجتماعية مفهومها وأهدافها- الرعاية الاجتماعية في الشرائع السماوية- الممارسات في الخدمة الاجتماعية في مواجة المشكلات الاجتماعية. ويتناول الباب الثاني بعض المجالات التطبيقية المختارة والتى يعمل فيها الممارس المهني في كل من علم الاجتماع والخدمة الاجتماعية ويشكل الرعاية في المجال الأسري- الرعاية في مجال الطفولة- الرعاية في المجال المدرسي- الرعاية في المجال الطبي والنفسي- الرعاية في ميدان الفئات الخاصة. أما الباب الثالث فهو يعرض لتجربتين من التجارب التى قمت بها في مصر والعالم العربي. التجربة الولى تتناول تحديات أوضاع المراة بمحافظة الاسكندرية في المجالات الديموجرافية ، التعليمية ، العمالة ن ومشاركتا في المنظمات غير الاهلية والتجربة الثانية تتناول دراسة لتقييم الاحتياجات والمشكلات في مجتمع حضري" فقير" في محافظة الاسكندرية.
