تتمتع قصائد الشاعر العراقي جاسم الياس بنكهة خاصة تؤشر إلى فرادته وتميزه وتمكنه من أدواته الفنية على صعيد اللغة والتخييل والمجاز وبناء وتشكيل الصور الاستعارية المبتكرة والمدهشة.
في قصائده الكلاسيكية "العامودية" نلمس بوضوح الإيقاع والجرس الموسيقي الضخم والمودي، واللغة الجزلة المتينة، والنبرة الغنائية الوجدانية العذبة والمسربلة بحزن شفيف.
أما في قصائده الحديثة فهو يميل إلى النبرة الإيقاعية الهامسة التي تعبر عن خلجات النفس الداخلية، ويكون أقرب إلى القصيدة الدرامية منه إلى الغنائية حيث التوتر والصراع المحتدم داخل الذات الشاعرة التي تتنافر "غالباً" مع شرطها الموضوعي الباعث للأغتراب والتشظي.
جاسم الياس صوت شعري أصيل، يتمسك بتراب وطنه الطهور، العراق كالطفل الملهوف.
