تعالج هذه الدراسة الدور الذي أداه جمال عبد الناصر في السياسة المصرية خلال الفترة من 15 يناير 1918 وحتى نهاية عام 1956، وكان هذا الموضوع جدير بالدراسة لأن عبد الناصر أشترك في الكثير من الأحداث الكبرى التي مرت بها مصر وترك بصماته في الحياة السياسية المصرية خلال القرن العشرين، ودوره السياسي صفحات ناصعة في تاريخ مصر وفي تاريخ العالم أجمع.
وبالرغم من تعدد الكتب التي صدرت عن عبد الناصر باللغة العربية والأجنية إلا أنه جسب علمي لم تسبق دراستنا دراسة أكاديمية في الجامعات المصرية لشخصية عبد الناصر ككل تعتمد على الوثائق والمصادر الأصلية والوثائق الأجنبية، كما أن الكتب العربية والأجنبية التي تناولت الكتابة عن شخصية عبد الناصر تعتبر دراسات محدودة لبعض جوانب من نشاطه في الحياة السياسية المصرية، وغلب على بعضها والتي كتبت في عهده التحيز له وكانت مملوءة بالمحبة والوفاء، أما الكتب التي كتبت بعد وفاته فظهر على بعضها كثير من التجني عليه وعدم سرد الحقائق العلمية الصحيحة بل كانت مجافية للحقيقة ومملوءة بالحقد وتدمير القيم والمثل.
وقد قسمت الدراسة ألى ستة فصول وخاتمة، خصصت الفصل الأول لدراسة نشأة جمال عبد الناصر وتكوينه العلمي والسياسي، وقد عالجت في الفصل الثاني دور عبد الناصر في القضية الوطنية، أما الفصل الثالث فقد ناقشت فيه عبد الناصر والقوى السياسية، وفي الفصل الرابع تناولت عبد الناصر في السلطة التنفيذية كوزير للوزراء كما تناولت أعماله واصلاحاته، وعالجت في الفصل الخامس دور عبد الناصر إزاء القضايا الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، وأخيراً ناقشت في الفصل السادس سياسة عبد الناصر الخارجية، وقد أعقبت هذه الفصول الستة بخاتمة لموضوع دراستي أوجزت فيها أهم النتائج التي توصلت إليها من خلال دراستي لدور عبد الناصر في السياسة المصرية حتى نهاية عام 1956.
