تُنسَبُ للإمام الأعظم والمجتهد الأقدم أبي حنيفةَ النعمان رضيَ الله عنه؛ وصيةٌ في أصول الدين، على مذهب أهل السنة والجماعة. وأول مَن عُنيَ بشرح هذه الوصية: الإمام أكمل الدين محمد بن محمد البابِرتي، المتوفى بمصر سنة 786 هـ، وهو متكلِّم أصوليّ فقيه محقق. وقد قرّر في شرحه هذا معانيَ الوصية المذكورة، وبيّن أوجه الاستدلال على مسائلها، مشيراً إلى مذاهب المخالفين، مجيباً عن إيراداتهم، مدعّماً شرحه بكلام أئمة أهل السنة، لا سيّما الماتريدية منهم، معتنياً بنقل مذاهب أرباب المقالات إذا لزم ذلك. وهو في سائر الشرح يحرص على عدم الاستطراد فيما يجاوز المراد، فجاء شرحُه سهل المأخَذ، وافياً بالمقصود.
وقد اعتنى محققا هذا الشرح بتوثيق نصِّه، ومقابلته على نسخه الخطية، وتصحيحه وضبطه، وتخريج أحاديثه، والتعليق في مواضع الحاجة، وصدّراه بمقدمةٍ فيها بحوثٌ مهمةٌ مفيدة، فأجادا فيما صنعا، وجاء الكتاب في مجموعه محققاً محرراً نافعاً.
