إن أول ما يتبادر إلى الذهن والوجدان عند الكتابة عن الأمير زيد والحكومة العربية في دمشق هو المفارقة المؤلمة بين أحلام الماضي وما آلت إليه الأوضاع في الوقت الحاضر من تشرذم ودمار وإنحطاط خلقي في الوطن العربي لا سيما في سوريا والعراق، فبينما كان رجالات النهضة العربية من الحجاز وبلاد الشام والعراق قبل مائة عام يدفعهم الفكر الوحدوي المستنير والشعور بالمسؤولية التاريخية تجاه رفعة الشعوب العربية إلا أنه سادت خلال العقود الماضية وبخاصة في الآونة الأخيرة مشاهد الإستبداد والفئوية والهجرة الجماعية وبروز الفكر الظلامي.
ترك الأمير زيد بصماته على تاريخ الثورة العربية الكبرى إذ قام بدور مؤثر في سعي العرب نحو تحقيق إستقلالهم عسكرياً وسياسياً، وهذه البصمات ما زالت حاضرة في وادٍ من وديان محافظة الطفيلة الأردنية وفي حبة قمح معروضة في متحف قصر العظم في دمشق والتي كتب عليها الخطاط نسيب المكارم قصيدة قيلت في الأمير زيد أثناء خدمته في سوريا، فيقول الشاعر في مطلع القصيدة: "سل المعارك من خواض غمرتها... تحبك زيد سليل السادة النجب".
لقد ولد الأمير زيد في إستانبول قبل بداية مشروع النهضة العربية ودفن في الأردن بجوار أخيه الملك عبد الله بن الحسين طيّب الله ثراهما في عام 1970م، وكانت رغبته أن يرقد بعد وفاته في بلد توراث وجسد مبادئ الثورة العربية الكبرى والتي على أراضيها قاتل من أجل حرية العرب، ولعل دول الجوار، سورية والعراق.
