يطمح هذا العمل إلى تسليط الضوء على قضية حساسة ومصيرية هي الأزمة الحادة التي هزت كيان المجتمع الجزائري منذ عدة عقود ولا تزال تبعاتها وآثارها ماثلة لحد اليوم في كل زاية وركن من هذا البلد المترامي الأطراف. أقصد بها ما عُرف في الجزائر بالعشرية الحمراء، أو السووداء لدى البعض الآخر. تلك الفترة الممتدة من بداية التسعينات من القرن الماضي ولغاية بداية الألفية الثالثة حيث واجه فيها المجتمع والدولة حربا "مقدسة" لا هوادة فيها شنتها باسم الدين جماعات إرهابية مختلفة الأطياف والانتماءات. يهدف هذا العمل، الذي نقدم فيه نصوصا مختارة لمجموعة من المثقفين الذين عايشوا تلك الفترة، إلى التعرف على طبيعة تلك الأزمة، وجذورها، وأسبابها وفرص الخروج من المستنقع الذي وقع فيه البلد، وتلمس المخرج من حالة الانسداد والشلل التي آلت إليه البلد.
من أجل ذلك سنقدم للقراء مساهمات عدد من المثقفين الذين أتيحت لهم فرصة التدخل في النقاش والتعبير عن آرائهم ومواقفهم حول هذه المسألة في حينها. وتبرز القراءة السريعة لهذه الإسهامات تركيز نخبة المثقفين في تحليلهم للأوضاع في الجزائر على محورين رئيسيين هما: أولا، تحديد طبيعة الأزمة وتوصيفها، وكشف أسبابها العميقة والمتنوعة. ثانيا، استشراف الطرق الكفيلة بالتخفيف من حدتها على المدى القريب، وإمكانات تجاوزها في المدى البعيد.
