هذا الكتاب لايقتصر على وصف التركيب كما هو متبع فى كتب تشريح النبات التقليدية , خاصة التى باللغة العربية , ولكنه بالإضافة إلى التغطية الشاملة للتركيب الأساسى للنبات , يتطرق إلى العلاقة بين التركيب والوظيفة , وميكانيكية التكون والنمو (خاصة فيما يتعلق بالتحكم الهرمونى) , ومحاولة تفسير بعض ظواهر النمو , وذلك بقدر ماتوصلت إليه البحوث والدراسات الحديثة فى هذا المجال.
هذا وجميع مواضيع الكتاب مدعومة بالصور التشريحية والأشكال التوضيحية المقرونة بشرح تفصيلى , كما تشتمل على العديد من المصطلحات العلمية والمرادف لكل منها أو شرحه باللغة العربية.
هذا الكتاب محصلة خبرة سنين عديدة (35 سنة) فى تدريس تشريح النبات لطلاب مرحلة البكالوريوس وطلاب الدراسات العليا بجامعة القاهرة , بالإضافة إلى أربع سنوات بإحدى الجامعات العربية . بجانب التدريس كان هناك مثابرة وحرص على إجراء العديد من البحوث المبتكرة فى مجال تشريح النبات , والإلمام بكل جديد فى هذا العلم ,وقد ساعد فى ذلك مهمة علمية بجامعة كارولينا الشمالية بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية .
وقد اشتمل هذا الكتاب (الباب السابع عشر) على جزء من نتائج بعض بحوث تشريح النبات المنشورة للمؤلف (ومعه آخرون) .
يأمل المؤلف أن يسد هذا الكتاب الحاجة إلى مؤلف شامل وحديث فى تشريح النبات , وهو ماتفتقر إليه المكتبة العربية فى الوقت الحالى ,وأن يحقق الفائدة المرجوةلطلاب المرحلة الجامعية وطلاب الدراسات العليا وأيضا القائمين بالتدريس والباحثين فى المجالات المرتبطة بتشريح النبات .
