يستعرض الكتاب في أجزائه الأربعة حياة اليهود، الدينية والاجتماعية والسياسية، خلال ما يقرب من أربعين قرناً، منذ عهود آبائهم الأولين، مروراً بحياتهم تحت حكم السلوقيين والبابليين والرومان، وما تلا ذلك من موجات الشتات الكبرى، كذلك ظروف حياتهم في العصور الوسطى، وأوضاعهم منذ بداية العصر الحديث حتى ظهور الصهيونية، وما انتهى إليه نشاط زعمائها بالتواطؤ مع القوى الاستعمارية من زرع إسرائيل في قلب العالم العربي.
وهذا الكتاب ثمرة مجهودات استمرت أكثر من 25 عاماً من البحث والإطلاع أثناء عملي الطويل بالسلك الدبلوماسي، وإقامتي لفترات طويلة بالخارج- مما أتاح لي فرصة الاطلاع على العديد من المراجع التي تناولت حياة اليهود والصهيونية والعرب، ومشكلات الشرق الأوسط بالتفصيل، وقد كان محظوراً دخولها إلى البلاد العربية، غذ كان مجرد اقتنائها من قبل أي فرد يعد جريمة لا تغتفر.
وما كان لهذا الكتاب أن يظهر في أي فترة سابقة، ولكن حان له أن يرى النور الآن في ظلال الديمقراطية- في عهد الرئيس مبارك- حيث أتيحت حرية الرأي والنشر، بما يكفل تفاعل الأفكار والآراء الذي يثري حياتنا الفكرية والثقافية، ويسمح بعرض الرؤية الصحيحة في كل مجال.
