يبحث هذا الكتاب في كشف النقاب عن جانب من الجوانب الهامة في مجال الدراسات والبحوث المتعلقة بقارة افريقيا... القارة البكر.. المطلوهة فهو يدريس حياة الاسترقاق والتحرر في سيراليون فقد كان من اهم المظاهر المميزة للحياة السياسية في سيراليون بعد حصولها على الاستقلال في إبريل سنة 1961 برز دور العسكريين الذين قاموا بأربعة انقلابات عسكرية استولوا خلال بعضها على مقاليد الحكم في البلاد وحلوا الأحزاب السياسية وعطلوا البرلمان وأقاموا حكما عسكريا ومما أدى إلى هذا الأضطراب في الحياة السياسية ظهور انقسامات حزبية متعددة غذتها الخلافات الدينية والقبلية بجانب المؤامرات الاستعمارية غير انه قيل حلول موعد الذكرى العاشرة للاستقلال برز حدث تاريخي له أهميته ودلالته وهو إعلان قيام الحكم الجمهوري في ابريل سنة 1971 وبذلك نفضت العناصر الوطنية في سيراليون عن نفسها تبعية بلادها بريطانيا اذ كانت سيراليون دولة ملكية على رأسها ملكة بريطانيا.
