الكلبى مؤلف الأصل: جمهرة النسب:
هو هشام بن محمد بن أبى النضر ابن السائب بن بشر الكلبى، أبو المنذر: مؤرخ عالم بالأنساب وأخبار العرب وأيامها، كثير من أهل الكوفة ووفاته بها سنة 204 هـ.
له نيف ومائة وخمسون كتابا، منها: جمهرة النسب، والأصنام، ونسب الخيل، وبيوتات قريش، والكنى، والمثالب، وافتراق العرب، وألقاب قريش، وألقاب اليمن، وملوك الطوائف، وملوك كندة، وبيوتاتا اليمن، وما كانت الجاهلية تفعله ويوافق حكم الإسلام، وأسواق العرب.
وكتابه جمهرة النسب يعد من محاسن الكتب فى هذا الفن، ولم يصنف فى باب مثله.
أما ياقوت الحموى ت 626 هـ، مؤلف المقتضب من كتاب جمهرة النسب:
هو ياقوت بن عبد الله الرومى الحموى أبو عبد الله شهاب الدين: مؤرخ ثقة من أئمة الجغرافيين، ومن العلماء باللغة والأدب.
من كتبه: معجم البلدان، وإرشاد الأريب، والمشترك وضعا والمفترق صعقا، والمقتضب من كتاب جمهرة النسب، والمبدأ والمآل فى التاريخ، وكتاب الدول، وأخبار المتنبى، ومعجم الشعراء.
وكتابه الذى نقدم له اليوم وهو المقتضب من كتاب جمهرة النسب، يقتصر على أصول الأنساب وهى زبدة كتاب الجمهرة، دون الخوض فى فروع الأنساب وأصولها، وبخاصة حذف أسماء الأمهات فى سلسلة النسب فهو لا يذكرها إلا فى القليل النادر، خلافا لابن الكلبى الذى يظهر اهتماما كبيرا بهذا الجانب.
هذا وقد كان حرصى على سلامة النص :ثر من حرصى على التعريف بالأعلام والبلاد والإسراف فى الشرح والتعليق، إذ كان ذلك أهم مايحتاج إليه العلماء والباحثون عند الرجوع إلى الكتب المحققة.
وتحقيق الأنساب ليس بالأمر الهين ولا هو بالصعب، ولكنه أصعب من الصعب، لا يكاد يؤمن فيه العثار.
