هذا الكتاب دراسة عن مشكلة جنوب السودان تتتبع جذور المشكلة وتطورها خلال الحكم الثنائي 1899 - 1956، وأثناء إدارة الحكومات الوطنية سواء أكانت ليبرالية أو عسكرية وكانت حركة التمرد والحرب الأهلية في الجنوب قد قامت في 1955 وإستمرت حتى 2005 باستثناء فترة الحكم الذاتي بعد اتفاقية أديس أبابا بين سنتي 1972 - 1983، وقد أستأنفت الحركة الشعبية بزعامة جون جارانج التمرد والحرب في الجنوب حتى تم عقد اتفاقية السلام النهائي في نيفاشا التي تلتها فترة انتقالية تمتد حتى 9 يناير 2011، وفي ذلك التاريخ تجري عملية الاستفتاء إما على بقاء السودان موحدًا أو إنفصال الجنوب، ورغم أن احتمالات الانفصال هي الأقرب للحدوث، فانني أذكر أهل الجنوب أولا وأهل الشمال ثانيًا، أنه ما نت بلد تجزأ وإنقسم إلا وضعف وتشرزم، وما من شعوب وأقاليم توحدت إلا وقويت وما من وطن تغلغلت فيه القوى الأجنبية إلا وخسر ودمر، وفقد كيانه القومي.
