يواجه المجتمع العربي اليوم وضعاً أقلّ ما يمكن أن يقال فيه إنه مضطرب معرفياً مقارنة بالمجتمعات الغربية المتقدّمة، التي استفادت من التراث العلمي العربي بمختلف مجالاته، وباتت تقود العالم اليوم، بينما المجتمع العربي لا يزال يبحث عن ذاته في ظل توجّه عالمي تسيطر عليه قوّة العلم والتّكنولوجيا، ويخلو من أخلاقيات الاعتراف بحق الآخر في الوجود؛ الأمر الذي يدعو إلى حتمية إعادة النّظر في تعاملنا مع واقعنا ومشاكله الثقافية والاجتماعية والتاريخية، وفق مناهج علمية تساعدنا على فهم وتفسير مكوّنات حضارتنا، وأسباب تقدّمنا في حقبة ما من الزمن، مقابل تراجعنا وجمودنا العقلي في حقبة أخرى طالت ولمّا نخرج منها بعد.
يحاول هذا الكتاب رصد بعض الرّؤى الإبستيمولوجية في العلوم الإنسانية على المستويين العربي والغربي من خلال قسمين يتناول الأول منهما الرّؤى الإبستيمولوجية في العلوم الإنسانية في الفكر العربي؛ ويتناول الثاني الرّؤى الإبستيمولوجية في العلوم الإنسانية في الفكر الغربي المعاصر. وهي رؤى تبدو مختلفة من حيث الأرضيات الفكرية والتّاريخية والواقع الاجتماعي الذي نشأت فيه، إلّا أنّها تشترك لا محالة في تناولها للفرد والمجتمع تناولاً معرفياً غايته الوقوف على العوامل التي تحكم وتوجّه الحياة الاجتماعية في أبعادها المختلفة.
