إذا كنت مثقف شامل, وتؤمن أن العلوم الفيزيائية هي أساس كافة العلوم, ولا تصبح هذه العلوم دقيقة إذا لم تبنى على العلوم الفيزيائية, وأن المنطق لم يعد يكفي ولابد من الرياضيات في تعاملنا مع كافة العلوم للوصول للمعارف والقوانين الدقيقة. هذا الكتاب يختصر ويصنف الكثير من المعارف الهامة لنا, وفي أغلب مجالات حياتنا, ويسعى لإرجاع كافة المعارف للعلوم الفيزيائية, فالفيزياء الآن بعد أن أرجعت الطاقة والقوى والمجالات الى المادة وجعلتهم شيء واحد, صار بالإمكان تفسير أية ظاهرة أو أي شيء بالعلوم الفيزيائية, بما فيها الظواهر الفكرية والنفسية والشعورية والبيولوجية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية (نظرية كل شيء). تتمثل المستحدثات في ظهور بيولوجيا جديدة عن العقل وتحقيق تطورات مهمة تعتبر بمنزلة طفرة واسعة في ميادين البيولوجيا العصبية والذكاء الصناعي والشبكات العصبية وغيرها من الإنجازات العلمية التي تؤلف تحدياً للافتراضات القديمة عن الطبيعة البشرية وعن معنى الإنسانية. لقد أصبح مركز الفعل العقلي- حسب تعبيره- في أيدي العلماء والمفكرين ذوي الميول العلمية, وهؤلاء هم الذين يؤلفون (الإنسانيين الجد). فالعلم الطبيعي الفيزياء والكيمياء والبيولوجيا هو إذاً مركز الثقل في الثقافة الجديدة على عكس ما كان عليه الوضع في الماضي غير البعيد, فلم تعد معرفة الشخص لآراء مفكرين كبار من أمثال فرويد وماركس أو الإحاطة باتجاهات الحداثة مؤهلاً أو مسوغاً كافياً لاعتبار ذلك الشخص مثقفاً لأن هذه الثقافة (لا أمبيريقية) تغفل العلم, بل إنها على أفضل الأحوال مجرد شروح على شروح أو تعليقات على تعليقات سابقة, ولا تأخذ في اعتبارها عالم الواقع بشكل دقيق, فهي ثقافة تعتمد معلومات متواضعة الدقة.
